Effective January 1, 2025, the LSBME board will require prescribers to take a specific course to meet the one-time requirement. The board has partnered with Medical Interactive to standardize the subject material to ensure that all prescribers receive the same information.
This is a one-time requirement for three hours of continuing medical education (CME) on CDS prescribing as specified by La. R.S. 40:978.3 (Act 76-2017) and §4005 of the LSBME rules. The topics required by these laws and rules are: best practices for the prescribing of CDS, drug diversion training, appropriate treatment for addiction, and the treatment of chronic pain.
The course is free to all prescribers and completion satisfies the statutory requirement. Prescribers can also be awarded 3 CME hours for a fee of $100. Those who are insured by LAMMICO will have this fee waived. Courses will be available starting January 1, 2025.
