Obstetricians, family practice physicians, midwives, obstetric nurse practitioners, resident physicians and any other interested healthcare practitioners skilled in EFM. EFM stakeholders and individuals skilled in neonatal resuscitation are also welcome to participate.
The 60 minutes immediately prior to birth and the first 60 minutes after, known as the “Golden Hour,” are critical. Improper care delivered during this timeframe has short- and long-term consequences that negatively affect neurologic development, increase mortality risk and foster malpractice claims. The “Golden Hour” isn’t golden if an unstable fetus becomes an unstable newborn that was not prepared for. Adoption of the current Neonatal Resuscitation guidelines and recommendations helps prepare perinatal first-responders to coordinate with neonatal second-responders to provide standardized resuscitation. Unfortunately, adoption and use of current NRP guidelines is inconsistent and often absent. As a result, liability to providers and hospitals has risen. This course is the first part of a two-part series that provides insight on how to identify a fetus who may require resuscitation and reviews current NRP guidelines with a case study and critical thinking drills.
